Mahāvairocana Buddha advises all sentient beings to know and understand the influence of cause and effect (karma) on everyone and provides methods on how to face and resolve one's karmic entanglements as well as those with others, so that you may achieve enlightenment in the future.
“Many people disregard karma, failing to understand its profound impact on their lives. This is because their understanding of karma is often superficial; they lack a deep comprehension of its principles. The existence of karma is intrinsically linked to reincarnation, and it is the very presence of karma that perpetuates the continuous cycle of rebirth. To halt the process of reincarnation, one must earnestly confront one's karma—this is the most fundamental concept.
When examining your karma, although the divine takes the responsibility to reveal your karma from three of your past lives, this is merely to help you understand that karma exists. However, your karma is not limited to just these three lifetimes; it encompasses all the unresolved experiences from all your past lives, accumulating in your present one. The karma revealed by divinity is primarily to guide you in facing the fundamental karmic tests and trials of this life. It does not mean that passing these tests guarantees enlightenment, as you may still have latent karma yet to be addressed.
Therefore, do not focus solely on your karma from three of your past lives. You may have accumulated other karma that is not part of this explanation. The divine realm cannot reveal everything, mainly because you are the ones being tested, not them. For this reason, you must adopt an open and expansive mindset as you embark on your life's journey. Do not confine yourself to your current way of life. In other words, do not become too accustomed to what you have now. You should have the courage to try new things, primarily to allow yourself to discover and uncover any remaining karmic factors. Only then will you have the chance to resolve and clear the rest. This will significantly increase your chances of attaining enlightenment in this lifetime; otherwise, you will need to continue exploring your karma in future lives.
Cultivating well in this life does not guarantee the same for the next. You may not find a compatible soul or a suitable environment for cultivation. However, the wisdom you have gained will remain within your spirit; it will not disappear. In future reincarnations, the divine realm may still grant you the opportunity to be reborn into an environment that allows you to explore a deeper level of cultivation. Throughout this process, you may feel great hardship and even confusion, but do not let these challenges deter you from elevating your higher wisdom. As long as you are clear about your direction and goals, even if you cannot achieve all that you seek in this life, you will not have wasted your time and energy on the path to enlightenment. This is a journey worth exploring, so do not be discouraged; face your karmic tests courageously.
Karma can often feel frustrating, especially when you are diligently trying to resolve the entanglements with others. They may remain indifferent to you because they do not understand the principles of karma. This is a natural phenomenon. Do not give up in the face of the difficulties of resolving karma. One day, your earnest efforts will naturally move the other person, and they will gradually come to accept the existence of karma. As long as you are not discouraged and do not give up, and you proactively face your karmic issues, you will inevitably resolve most of them, and perhaps even eliminate all your karma, thereby attaining enlightenment.
I hope you do not view karma as a burden in life. When you have such a thought, you have already been defeated by your karma. However, if you see karma as an opportunity for enlightenment and seize this chance, you will naturally achieve excellent results, and your wisdom will see a significant enhancement. Therefore, do not treat karma as a burden.
In truth, resolving karma with others is not impossible. It simply requires more sincerity, more love, and more understanding to build a better relationship. As long as your intentions are pure, correct, and you are proactive about resolving your karmic entanglements, they will not become significant obstacles. The most challenging is resolving one's karma—one’s attachments, obsessions, cravings, and desires. These become your primary hindrances. One's karma is like a shadow. Many people can see their shadows, but if someone is in darkness, they cannot see their shadows. The concept of karma is the same. When you carry karmic entanglements, you naturally cannot see yourself, just as you cannot see your shadow in the dark.
Therefore, you strive to break through these barriers. When you cannot overcome your karma, it is impossible to build better relationships with others. This is the principle of "liberating oneself before liberating others." The various problems you see in the mortal world stem from individual issues. These personal problems, in the context of social and family life, lead to karmic entanglements with others. If everyone could properly examine and deal with their karma, most of these karmic issues would cease to exist. If you truly want to face the obstacles of karma, you must start with yourself. When you accept this idea, it means you recognise your shortcomings, are willing to accept them, and are diligently working to transform them into strengths. In doing so, the friction of karma in your social and family life will naturally dissipate.
Thus, cultivation lies within oneself. Even if a group cultivates together, they may not all achieve enlightenment. Enlightenment depends on one's understanding and awakening. In the learning process, do not limit yourself. Seek more opportunities and face more challenges. The key is to use various methods to elevate yourself and break through the truth of the karmic cycle of reincarnation.
Being able to see yourself is the most crucial first step. If you cannot see yourself, it will be arduous to begin the path of cultivation. It is imperative to place great importance on this, as your beginning is the most critical. If you start on the path of cultivation for other reasons, you will inevitably encounter many obstacles and hindrances that will cause you to feel discouraged and want to give up. Therefore, as long as you understand that cultivation ultimately means facing yourself, you will have won the battle against karma in this lifetime.”
